Swami Atmavidyananda was born Arvind Joshi to a traditional Brahmin family in 1971, in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India. At an early age, the spiritual environment and guidance of his parents nurtured in him a real quest for God.

 

Upon completion of a degree in mechanical engineering, he met Paramahamsa Hariharananda and, with his blessings, was initiated into Kriya Yoga in 1994, at Rourkela Ashram in India. Along with his professional responsibilities, after completing the first Residential Brahmachari Training Course in 2002 organized under the auspices of Paramahamsa Prajnanananda, having studied Sanskrit and scriptures, he dedicated his life to his spiritual practice and quest for God as a resident at Hariharananda Gurukulam.

 

He had been guiding and teaching meditation at Hariharananda Gurukulam in Balighai since September, 2004. Since September 2006, at the request of his master Paramahamsa Prajnanananda, he is traveling and teaching Kriya Yoga, participating in interfaith conferences, doing spiritual counseling and lecturing on spiritual topics in the USA, Canada, and South America. He was ordained as a monk in the Giri monastic order in February 2009 and given the name Swami Atmavidyananda, which means "bliss of Self-knowledge". As a resident monk of the Kriya Yoga Institute he resides in Miami, USA.

About the speaker:

Mr. Binod Nayak worked for the World Bank for 27 years. His areas of specialization include Financial Modeling, Development Finance, Corporate Finance and Investment Management. During the last six years he has been involved in research in Microfinance with special emphasis on how it benefits the poor, and the society-at-large. His research also focuses on microfinance product design and financial risk management of Microfinance Institutions (MFIs). He believes microfinance is one of the most powerful instruments available to fight poverty on the ground.

 

He has Masters Degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science from I.I.T. Kanpur ( India ) and University of Washington , Seattle respectively. He also has an MBA degree from the Smith School of Business, University of Maryland at College Park . He holds a CFA charter from the CFA Institute, Charlottesville , Virginia . His other interests include Artificial Intelligence, Cognitive Science and Philosophy."
